. . . or so Blogger informs me.
I didn't have a single thing to do today, in a small miracle. I plowed through a novel, read the play I'm teaching tomorrow (still haven't done a lecture or discussion plan, though-- but we've got some stuff running over from last class, so I should be okay), and took two walks. Not too shabby. Of course, it's 8:44 PM now, and I'm completely exhausted.
My reading might have something to do with that. Today I've read through: 3 suicides, 3 murders, and 1 death from illness, if I count correctly. Grab a copy of McTeague and Hedda Gabler, and join in the fun! By the time I finish reading for my comps, I'll be a babbling jittering heap of raw, exposed nerves.
And isn't that a pretty picture?
And now I'm listening to "Desperado," which, it occurs to me, is perhaps not the best choice of music.
Mood music in place, it's probably time to go draw up tomorrow's class. We read Marlowe's Doctor Faustus last (in which the titular character sells his soul to the devil), and I meant to play either "Sympathy for the Devil" or "Friend of the Devil," but I didn't get around to it because the clips from Reservoir Dogs took up too much time.
I'm an unabashedly weird teacher. I have to keep sane somehow.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
