My Cat Is A Ho
Seriously. I went over to chat with my new next-door neighbor, who's also a new recruit to the graduate program, and I took Alice with me. Alice promptly sets out to give herself the grand tour of the place without so much as glancing at her new neighbor. Eventually, the new neighbor (we'll call her C, for verbosity's sake) reached out to pet her. Alice sniffed C's hand carefully and then-- get this-- graciously dipped her head down to allow it to be petted.
My cat, La Grande Dame. My cat, Her Royal Highness. Princess Alice, to you.
But look how modest she looks here! How demure! How shy! :

So anyway, there's nothing going on here, really. I accomplished very little today, surprise surprise, though I have picked up some this evening. There's a Mystery Departmental Meeting tomorrow (why should they bother telling us in advance what the meetings are about when creating suspense is so much fun?), so I have that to look forward to (ha). And I have to finalize my syllabus at some point, bleah.
So that's about it in SlamLand. As a favorite Calvin and Hobbes comic strip said, "further bulletins as events warrant."
Reading: drama textbook
Listening: HGTV
Current Obsession: too tired to obsess

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
