Ouch
I have very, very peculiar feet. From ages of going barefoot (hey, I'm from the South), they're tough. But, many days, all I have to do is look at a shoe, and my feet are covered in blisters. Such has been the case lately, when everything from Birkenstocks to stilettos [when I typed this into google to see what came up, I got this page. While I've always described some shoes as ho shoes, I didn't quite realize that there are stores dedicated to purveying quality ho shoes. Live and learn] is giving me major blisters. My feet were in such poor condition by the time I got to class today that a student offered me Band-Aids, and I ended up walking home barefoot. I've been mincing around my apartment all evening. Following some excellent advice I once received on a message board, I soaked my feet in water mixed with hydrogen peroxide, and now I'm limping around in my multicolored neon fuzzy trailer park slippers-- which are hurting my feet. This is just pathetic.
My hands blister the same way. My mother has (oh-so-charitably) commented before that it's a good thing I don't have to make my living by my hands, or I wouldn't make it. Parents are sympathetic like that.
In other exciting, non-extremity-related news, I've augmented my collection of dishes via eBay. I love my Corelle Bella Vista, both for its design and its extreme practicality (drop a plate? it bounces; I've seen it happen). If any of my dedicated readers out there are looking for Corelle patterns, past or present, eBay is a veritable treasure trove. Complete sets, sets of plates, mixed lots, you name it.
I love me some eBay. 100% positive feedback, baby.
Corelle reminds me of a good story. I was speaking to some neighbors several years ago. The mother is my parents' age; she's a Very Proper Lady who's always impeccably dressed (straight out of a Talbots catalogue, I think), keeps an immaculate house, etc. Her daughter (incidentally, my favorite baby sitter when I was a child) is the mother of two little boys, wife of a marine, a scientist / science teacher, and extremely matter-of-fact and down-to-earth. Somehow, the subject of dishes came up, and the mother mentioned a place I might go to find some "beautiful china." I said that Corelle was more my style. The daughter snorted with laughter and said, "Goes straight from the freezer to the oven, then throw it in the dishwasher!" Amazing what a difference a generation makes, huh.
Okay. We've moved from my feet to my dishes in the space of one blog entry. I think that's my cue that it's time to go to bed now.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
