Reading, reading, everywhere, and I don't want to think.
Anyway.
Public service announcement #1: Amazon.com's Top 10 Box Sets of 2002. #1 in their hearts and in mine.
Public service announcement #2: The person above me must be a grad student of some description. He played one song, and one song only, at top volume last night: "Blood Brothers". How do I reach my conclusion from that? "Now the hardness of this world / slowly grinds your dreams away." His bathing at odd hours (when he bathes), never leaving the apartment, never having company, and being late to bed and early to rise had already alerted me, but that was the clincher. Down in the isolation of my apartment, I sang along out of solidarity.
Public service announcement #3: YAY BATTY for getting a conference proposal accepted . . . at a conference in New Orleans . . . on her birthday. My congratulations (and my jealousy) go out to you.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
