The blog has been silent. Mainly because the proprietor has been lazy.
Really lazy. And loving it.
I used to use vacation time to catch up on my "deep" reading. No more. I'm on my third junky mystery (serious fluff here, to sound a bit paradoxical), and I've read two comic books as well. And magazines. And The Nanny Diaries. I've also watched several movies (as in TV!), most recently Office Space. And I've seen 'em all before, so I don't even have to think that hard. I have seen The Two Towers and certainly intend to do so again. I'm not sure I have a favorite of the trilogy, but that one does have some of my favorite parts in it; I love the Ents and Helms Deep. The Ents weren't quite as I pictured them, and they talked too fast, but I approve anyway. I was worried previously that Elijah Wood wouldn't manage the transition from innocent Hobbit to brooding ringbearer, but my concerns were unfounded; I think he does it well, and the Sam-actor, whose name escapes me, is the perfect counterpoint. But my pick of characters for the second movie is unquestionably Wormwood (who played Luther Lee Boggs in the X-Files, incidentally, in "Beyond the Sea," 1.12). Exactly as I'd pictured him.
Let's see. When I finish the current mystery (the fluffiest of the fluff), I may settle down and read the William Trevor novel I've been saving up. I'm not going to let myself use a pen, though. Once upon a time, reading was a break. It was fun. A diversion. Sigh. Gather ye rosebuds . . .
And I need to get some reading lists for classes, sadly, and start the pre-reading. Joy. Next term it's Romanticism, modern British/American, and American muckraking / narrative theory. It's kind of like my schedule for the previous term; two that sort of fit together, and the other is the "what is wrong with this picture" selection. Two of the three professors are supposed to be pretty difficult. Joy.
Clearly, I'm rambling. This should surprise no one. And I'm refusing to think at the moment, anyway [peanut gallery, you know where you can stick it].
Signing off before the ever-so-fickle internet connection beats me to it . . .

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
