Still philosophizing after all these years.

Some highlights from my trip to the university bookstore yesterday:
Two guys, discussing textbooks: "If it says it's 'recommended,' then it's probably, like, not required." [note: the cards for required texts read "required"]
Chick on cell phone: "So this is like terrible, but I'm having to buy like all new books! I mean, some of them are used and all, but I didn't have to buy this many last term! I mean, I repeated a lot of courses, so I just used the same books."
Chick on cell phone again, speaking in worldly-wise tone: "Omigah, I know. Fittings."
Chick on cell phone (she was behind me in the line to pay): "So I said, like, 'it's stupid.' And she was all, well, 'it sucks, but it isn't stupid.'"

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
