Scopin' Me Out
The endoscopy was quick and easy. I had an IV of Versed (who knows what strength, since I already take a benzodiazepine), so I really don't remember anything past them putting in the mouthguard and asking me to swallow. The IV in my hand was utterly painless, as was the procedure itself.
My esophagus is okay; my stomach is red and irritated with pools of acid (?). That's about as technical as I can get, since the doctor explained all this when I was freshly off the Versed (but still on liquids, owing to my "how low can you go?" blood pressure). He said he took biopsies and samples of the fluid, so I suppose I'll hear from that at some point.
In the meantime, I continue NuLev, start Zelnorm (which I now always identify as "the one where the women on the commercial pull up their shirts"), and Nexium. Three more drugs to add to the talley; at this point, my daily medication roster can top that of many a geriatric.
An RN did the sign-out paperwork. According to it, I should stop pepsid [sic], start Nexium, and have a trail of Zelrom [sic and sic]. These latter two medications are "perscriptions."
The same RN gave me a sheet descripting what Versed was (why they gave this to me after the procedure, I don't know) as well as a sheet for something called Fentanyl, which was apparently not intended for me, as I was at no time prescribed or given any of this drug. However, after reading up on the medicine sheet and hitting the internet, I think I'd like some of this, please. I bet I cut cut most if not all of the other pills from my daily roster with a couple of these babies on board (adhesive allergy be dammed).
Anyway, I had my "individual psychotherapy" (at least, that's what the recepit says) appointment this morning. I began by dozing off in the waiting room, where a kid I'll wager had some serious ADHD read aloud from the Bible the whole time. I was reading The Crime of the Century and considered matching his Joshua (at least, that's what I think it was) with my Richard Speck, but I decided that there were too many witnesses (eg doctors) of potential mental trauma for me to avoid a lawsuit.
My throat got sore during the appointment, and my voice started to crack, so I ended up calling sick into work; I think I slept until nearly 6:00 PM. I guess the fatigue was still the Versed talking, and I had had a low fever last night, which might have kept me from being my usual Sleeping Beauty self.
Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
