Snickers Bars and Bondage Fairies
My Halloween events took place last night. I kicked off the holiday by helping (to the best of my pathetically weak, un-musculed ability) JM move to a larger apartment. She had made the evil decision to provide all those helping her with a large pumpkin full of mini chocolate bars. I was able to establish that I do not, in fact, have any willpower when confronted with a bowl of chocolately goodness.
The Halloweeen party followed. I went as Scarlett O'Hara, complete with hoop skirt (walking around in one of those is quite an experience), lace gloves, fan, and parasol. Other costumes included a tawdry 30s "woman of easy virtue" (as my favorite high school history teacher used to say), a pair of bondage fairies, a woodland spryte, Northrop Frye, a nun in drag (lugging around a six pack), Hermione and a Dementor (I had to be told who those two were; my Harry Potter recognition factor is apparently low), Margot and Richie from The Royal Tenenbaums (that was a good one), Boss Tweed, and Tammy Faye Baker (complete with white suit whose sholderpads stuck out far, far beyond the actual shoulders of the wearer). Oh, and the scariest costume: A Republican.
So, that was my Halloween. I think I'm going to keep carrying the parasol with me; it's good for smacking people.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
