Please. Make. It. Stop
THREE HOURS of pre-Birth of a Nation D.W. Griffith silent films last night. Unbelievably painful. If there hadn't been others there, I would have flipped. I joined JM in the back row and heckled-- as did everyone else. It was truly shameful: eating, getting up to go buy cigarettes, reading other articles, talking, etc., etc. Three hours of (supposedly) viewing and Contemplating Films turned into a three-hour talk-a-thon. Riveting as classics such as Those Awful Hats and Enoch Arden (parts one and two are, passing around candy and jabbering inanely were a lot more entertaining.
We'd all also been at a very bad talk, the thesis of which I can sum up for you here: People don't like to get sewage on them. Noise is annoying.
Yes, I'm in the department of English. Not that you'd know it.
And I had to tape CSI and Without a Trace. Sigh. Insomnia, however, made it possible to watch them both last night after I got in at 10-something.
That about wraps up today (and it's only 2:30). There's a PhD party for K tomorrow night, so at least that's something to look forward to.
Now . . . papers (cue ominous music)
Reading: student rough drafts (uggggh)
Listening: Lucinda Williams

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
