Do the Hustle
Okay, long time no update. Bleah.
Saturday has been my only big day recently. I kicked things off by getting up early and hitting eight yard sales, two church yard sales, and an estate sale. The estate sale had the most tempting stuff, but I was restrained. All in all, I got a couple books, a Mexican tile trivet (which matches my dishes nicely-- as well as matching the color / decorative scheme that my kitchen has in my head, if not in fact), and, most excitingly, one of those cat trees. Alice immediately fell in love with it and perches on it constantly. In fact, she's already knocked it over once (this is a heavy item) by jumping at it too forcefully (it also has a dangling toy on the base of the shelf). I've christened it the Alice Pedestal and placed it in the window so she can enjoy the view.
Saturday night, I went to a PhD celebration party for our "PhD Pimp Mama" (at least, that's what the cake icing said). The theme was funk, and the decor was straight back to the 70s: strobe lights, glitz and glitter, disco balls, the whole nine yards, plus a soundtrack of vintage tunes. I rejected the funk aesthetic as not suiting my mode of dress and went for a softer, more hippiesh look instead. I wore my mother's rehearsal party dress (vintage 1975!), which is floral, somewhat flowy, and graceful-looking (now that the original ruffle that adorned the bottom has been lopped off; besides, it was too long for me before because my mother is taller than I am). I get tired at ridiculously early hours but otherwise had a good time. I arrived home wearing a disco ball around my neck and a wreath of confetti-glittery-stuff in my hair, so I'm sure the Neighborhood Association has blacklisted me for tackiness and questionable behavior.
Not that I hold a grudge or anything. Nope. Never.
Reading: drama textbook
Listening:Nick Cave
Current Obsession: Alice: is displaying herself on her pedestal. The better for the neighborhood at large to admire her.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
