When TAs Attack
So, the big news 'round here: All humanities TAs in our building will lose their offices next year. Along with our computer lab and our mailroom. We have until May 4th to clear out everything we own, and then it's takeover time. Another building (sciences) is being renovated, so all those professors etc. are getting moved over to where we stepchildren (English, comp lit, history, philosophy) are. Where are we going? Well, they don't know that yet. What they do know is that we won't have actual offices and will be sharing communal space (probably something like a classroom) with a bunch of other people. Can you say disaster in the making?
How are we supposed to hold office hours? How are we supposed to hold conferences? Where will we gossip unheard? Where will students turn in papers? Where will we crash in between classes, talks, etc?
As if I needed more stress in my life.
Revenge plans thus far: Litter offices with half-used packages of condoms. Leave condom wrappers scattered about. Erotic love poetry stuck in the crevices of all the desks. Cryptic magnetic word-poetry on all the metal surfaces.
That's not much of a start, but we were only informed Monday. Sugggestions welcome; you know my e-mail.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
