Philosophy Slam
Still philosophizing after all these years.

I've changed the random quotation in the right-hand corner back to Pascal. Previously, I think, the Pascal o' choice was fragment 24:
Man's condition. Inconstancy, boredom, anxiety.
Maybe. I'm not sure. I keep meaning to develop a record of what quotations I put up there, just as a running state of mind thing, but of course I never get around to it, because I never get around to anything.
Inconstancy, boredom, anxiety. What a nice little refrain for my life.
Please, pull up a chair, join my self-pity party. As my brother would say, cheese will be served with the whine.
I'm finding myself intolerable, so I'm going to shut up and let someone else take over now:
Housman:
Therefore, since the world has still
Much good, but much less good than ill,
And while the sun and moon endure
Luck's a chance, but trouble's sure,
I'd face it as a wise man would,
And train for ill and not for good.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
