It's dry around here, finally. Positive side: no more wet carpet. Negative: the air quality is desert-like. My eyes are dry, Alice's water keeps evaporating, and I've shocked the poor cat repeatedly (but she seems to like it, so who knows?). To rehydrate the place, I'm doing laundry, running the dishwasher, that sort of thing. Leaving bowls of water around is out of the question because some of us-- ahem-- think that bowls of water are cat toys, ripe for tipping, splashing, and all sorts of other messy fun.
And let's praise the gods for Febreeze. This place doesn't stink, and I'm sure that the Febreeze has a lot to do with that. I can't do too much cleaning yet, because the carpet pad hasn't been replaced. I've vacuumed in the den area, vacuumed and Swiffer'd the kitchen, and did some random dusting. I can't finish up until the carpets back in place, though.
Because of the absent pad, all of my furniture is smushed on one side of the room. The coffee table is a foot from the TV stand, and the futon is a foot from the coffee table. It's cozy, to say the least. I now have a vacant space that's 83 inches by a bit more than 12 feet (the limit of my Stanley tape measure, which also turns out to be a cat toy). I feel like I should be doing something creative with it, having dance classes or a gymnastics meet or something. I think it's the feel of the concrete floor right below the carpet that makes me feel like something athletic should be going down here.
So Thanksgiving was good. (transitions? who needs transitions? see my students' papers for further examples) Let's hear it for people who A) like to cook and are B) seriously good at it and C) are willing to feed pathetic, non-cooking losers like myself. I ate too much.
A final moment of randomness: I got a free sample of Lancome mascara, and I'd just like to announce that Revlon Lash Fantasy works far better and costs far less. Consider yourselves edified.
Ciao.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
