Philosophy Slam
Still philosophizing after all these years.

In one of my classes today (the American studies one), we divided into our running groups of transnationalism and sentimentality. First of all, the split is heavily gendered, with all of the females except one (yours truly) in sentimentalism, and all of the guys save one in transnationalism. If I ever titled posts (that is, if I could ever stay on one topic long enough to make it worthwhile to name a post), I'd call this one "One of the Guys." Or "Just the Good Old Boys."
Anyway.
Point being.
Our group decided quickly that transnationalism is about everything and nothing (and we had plenty of more specific criticisms to back that up, along with a substantial number of concerns about this particular emerging field). The only positive thing we could agree on is that TV Is Good, especially Reno 911! This, we concluded, is unquestionably the funniest show on TV.
I used to be so enthuastic about theories and learning. Then I went to grad school. All of that headed down the toilet, rather quickly.
I just finished grading the kiddies' pop quizzes, and, with a few exceptions, they were good. I was surprised, and pleased: they do the reading! Smiley face stickers all around!
Or not.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
