Still philosophizing after all these years.

I accidentally took a three-hour nap this afternoon (I'm fairly inept at setting my alarm clock) and had some truly awful nightmares. The loose basis for them was grad school, but the forms these dreams took preyed on every last one of my dream insecurities. It was horrible, like my brain had marshaled every force it had against me. I can't rid myself of some of the images. I think my brain is trying to tell me something. Or maybe it's begging for mercy.
I taught this morning, which went decently. I wish I could tell how many of my insecurities they pick up on, though. After that, I retreated to my office to hold office hours (charade) and read for my own classes. The office is freezing, and I keep a cardigan in there like the little old lady I am. JM has classed up her side of the office with family pictures, dried flowers, art prints, and nice desk accessories. My half features a Mr. Potato Head, black and white computer-printed photos of American authors (and a few choice existentialists), and an empty Diet Lemon Coke can. Soon enough, I'll have a 3 x 5 poster of The Scream to go over my desk, plus a nice Kerouac print. And I do have a Ramones poster that I haven't actually gotten up yet. At least my half won't look quite so bleak anymore (but fixing the flickering fluorescent light over my desk would go ever farther toward rectifying the overall dinginess).

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
