A summary of my day thus far, in honor of the fact that I don't want to review my Victorian reading:
Got up, with difficulty. Headed off to the library circa 8:00 AM. Fall is perhaps on its way; it was chilly enough to require a light long-sleeved shirt and a light jacket this morning. It was a gorgeous morning, though: cloudy, breezy, first leaves falling, the sounds of construction, strange men distributing New Testaments . . . Seriously, urban oddities aside, it was very pleasant. It's vaguely sunny now, and still chilly-ish. I'll probably do without a coat but keep the long sleeves. Actually, I'll change to new long sleeves-- I looked in a mirror after being awake awhile and noted that perhaps the shirt I'm currently wearing should become pajamas or at least I'm-not-leaving-the-apartment attire.
I need to run the dishwasher, or I'm going to be eating directly off the countertops. If you'll excuse me . . .

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
