Someone needs to die. I hauled over to Southern lit early so I could copy the Benjamin article for modernism tomorrow. This early exit decreased the amount of time which I used to cram in Faulkner. A classmate had kindly made a master copy of the article and left it over in the English department so that everyone else could just put the stack of papers in the department's copier, push one button, and have a quick copy, all for free. Of course, when I got over there, som [insert heartfelt expletives of your choice] had simply taken the article. Meaning I had to go to the library reserve room after southern lit (at which point it was already completely dark AND raining, not to mention cold) and copy the article page by page, using the original book (which it took a long time to locate in the first place, but I won't go into that). AND, to cap it off, I had to pay for the copies.
And it's a long friggin article. Hmmph. We're "ideally" supposed to have all of Women in Love read for tomorrow, but that's not going to happen. I'm about 160 pages from the end, and while normally, albeit with extreme loss of sleep, I could pull that off by 12:30 tomorrow, that's not possible this time. Benjamin is lengthy and nuanced and all that (plus, I notice it's a mid-60s translation, which could bode ill in terms of readability), and that's 160 pages of LAWRENCE. NOT FUN. Oh, and there's a two-hour lecture at 10:00 tomorrow, which cuts into my cram time AND means that I won't get lunch. Gee, just like last week!
I'm damp and cranky and hungry. You'll have to excuse me.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
