Is it just me, or does 9 PM seem a bit late for a telemarketing call? It was actually my credit card company, who freaked me out because they called at this hour and prefaced the call with "hi, we're calling about your Wachovia credit card." My first response was to freak (since I'm, well, a freak) and think that something had gone drastically wrong, that someone had stolen my number or something. They were, in fact, offering me the service plan that I've already declined twice to date. I went for three tonight.
For nineteeth century, I've been doing research for two weeks on a particular novella by A.S. Byatt. When I finally got a chance to speak with him today, I pointed out that Byatt is British, not, as he had asserted, American (he does work on both sides of the Atlantic and is consequently prone to confusion). So now I'm changing texts and hence scrapping those two weeks of heavy-duty library time. ARRRRRRRRGH.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
