Still philosophizing after all these years.

I made it through my first presentation unscathed! YEA! I'm pathetically excited, but presentations are hard for me to do. I managed not even to break into a sweat or shake this time, though.
I got up at 4:00 to finish the presentation and then went to a talk at 10:00. I think going to the talk (and hence not hanging around my apartment agonizing over every detail) helped, and it was a good talk besides (by the same visiting speaker who gave an utterly fantastic talk yesterday). After that I hung around with some other English types (and Department Father Figure, bless his heart, gave me a copy of Ulysses Annotated, which should save my butt when we start it in a couple weeks).
Other good news: My weekend is saved. Major Weirdo is having a party at his place Friday night, and then there's another one at someone else's on Saturday.
More good news: We only have to read half of Women in Love (D.H. Lawrence-- shoot me now) for next week.
In other words, things are going decently, so it's clearly only a matter of time until the other shoe drops . . .
OH. And it turns out there are THREE guys living in the froggie doormat apartment, all medical students. One rode up in the elevator with me, and he actually talked, so I got the information out of him. Since I'm single and desperate (and utterly without shame), I need to start going over there and saying things along the lines of "Ah'm feelin' a little faint heah . . ." in my best Southern gal drawl. Take mint juleps over there, that sort of thing.
Kidding. I think.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
