I am avoiding Dickens with all my might. Can anyone tell that I do NOT like 19th century British lit?

Oddly, I ended up really warming up to Lawrence.

Anyway. Today's main activities have been finishing Lawrence, playing putt-putt, and snarling at Hard Times. The grad students headed off en masse to Grand Ole Golf (no, really, that was what it was called) for putt-putt and pizza, which was really quite enjoyable. A first year who's from Korea, was in our group and had never played putt-putt before. He was a little lethal for the front nine, but he ended up coming in second. Another student was also amusing, as he takes the game way, way, way too seriously. Jake's Mommy [JM] and I somehow tied both the front and back nine. Our group was all first-years, plus one girl's boyfriend, who was visiting (and, as he pointed out frequently after the match, waxed the floor with the our PhD program), but all the grad students ate together.

That's about it, though. I need to haul butt on reading and figure out some paper topics. Posthaste.

Oh, the apartment across from me is re-inhabited by a chick who was playing music so loud earlier that it was making my futon vibrate. That's really unusual, because this building has a very strict noise policy, and I haven't had any other major problems to date. We'll hope that that was just because she was moving in today. I don't want to be a monster, but if it keeps up, I'm reporting it. I think (from the sounds I heard), someone came up or down the stairs, entered our hall and must have asked her to turn it down. Ah, the joys of living with other compulsive studiers!
