Have returned from the library, where I undertook ineffectual modernism research. I think I'm going to end up copping out and doing something with trauma. So sue me.
The university library is oddly quiet on the weekends, with very few students present. There were typically more dweebs than this in my undergrad library, and there was no grad program there. That strikes me as strange. There were a fair number of people in the reserve room (which is much less dungeon-like than the rest of the library), but that's all.
I stopped at CVS for granola bars and hair detangler (call me vain, but any of you who have seen my afro-esque hair in the morning know why this is not something I need to run out of) on the way back from the library (or liberry, as I like to call it, in tribute to my former workplace). I had a brief moment of shock on my walk back. I was meandering, enjoying the fallish weather, and generally people-watching, when someone ran up behind me and clapped me on the back. Fortunately, it was just Touchy Feely but he scared the living daylights out of me. It's strange how you have no time to react when something like that happens. He was, and I quote, "running the booze out of [his] system." Sounds like a good way to spend Sunday afternoon.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
