Peoples: I survived my seminar presentation! No one really had anything to say, so it was low-stress. At the beginning, the prof "and first up we have Meg's paper" [we read our papers first thing; the papers are distributed the class period before so that everyone can read and comment on them], and a student finished for him " . . . now that we're seriously depressed . . ." Does that mean they liked it? Spreading joy and cheer where'er I go . . .

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
