Philosophy Slam
Still philosophizing after all these years.

Hullo, Slammers. Back from class now, where we began our discussions of Blood Meridian. As a McCarthy freak, I'd like to just say one thing: Everyone should read McCarthy. Everyone. If you want to read one of the Southern novels, read Suttree. If you want to read one of the Western novels, read Blood Meridian. Here's the major part of this statement: For the love of all that's good, don't read All the Pretty Horses. Yes, it's the most famous thing he's written, but it's a bad novel. As in not good. Blood Meridian, however, is The Great American Novel [yes, that is stated with some degree of irony and a slight thumb of the nose at the canon], and Suttree is simply the greatest novel ever written.
I have spoken. Peace out.

Pascal: The present is never our end. The past and the present are our means, the future alone our end. Thus we never actually live, but hope to live, and since we are always planning how to be happy, it is inevitable that we should never be so.
